The existing coating must be removed before proceeding with a new deposition cycle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Recovery of equipment and molds.<\/strong> Tools, molds, and production equipment coated with functional PVD films wear out over time. Decoating allows the depleted film to be removed and the piece to be prepared for a new coating, extending the useful life of the equipment without the need for replacement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Management of excess inventory.<\/strong> Stocked components with finishes no longer demanded by the market can be recovered through decoating and re-treated in the current finish, avoiding waste and the related cost of reworking or disposal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><em><em><em><em><em><em>Decoating methods<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The choice of method depends on the type of coating, the substrate material, and the dimensional tolerances of the piece:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/lemgalvanica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LEM_PVD-Decoating_ENG-800x490.jpg\" alt=\"LEM_PVD Decoating_ENG\" class=\"wp-image-5222\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lemgalvanica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LEM_PVD-Decoating_ENG-800x490.jpg 800w, https:\/\/lemgalvanica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LEM_PVD-Decoating_ENG-768x471.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lemgalvanica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LEM_PVD-Decoating_ENG-350x214.jpg 350w, https:\/\/lemgalvanica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LEM_PVD-Decoating_ENG-600x368.jpg 600w, https:\/\/lemgalvanica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LEM_PVD-Decoating_ENG.jpg 1201w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><em><em><em><em><em>The critical issue: process selectivity<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fundamental requirement of decoating is <strong>selectivity<\/strong>: the treatment must remove the coating without altering the roughness, dimensions, or metallurgical state of the substrate. A piece that exits decoating with the substrate damaged, scratched, corroded, or dimensionally out of tolerance is not immediately recoverable for a new deposition cycle, requiring further process steps to be restored to its original condition.
